ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The International Baltic Piano Competition, organised by the Piano Department of the Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, is a way in which the pianists of the Pomerania Region would like to pay homage to Professor Zbigniew Śliwiński, who died 2003. He had been connected to the Academy in Gdańsk for over 42 years and had created the Piano Department. Professor Śliwiński remains present in the memory of his pupils as the unequalled paragon of an artist. In his humility towards music, and his professional honesty and consciousness, he saw his fundamental responsibility in creative inspiring and caring for the budding generation of artists.

The repertoire required in the competition, as well as the rules of the Jury, make it possible to perceive and reward pianists, who are professional, possess a creative artistic imagination and versatile pianistic skills. The goal of the organizers of the Competiton is to help young, talented musicians in developing their artistic careers and enable them the present their pianistic achievements in public.

By organizing the International Baltic Piano Competition in the successive years, we also hope to contribute to the promotion of the Pomerania Region – a place with rich cultural traditions.
