Cécile Edel – Latos (France)

Graduated from the Ecole Normale de Musiquae A. Cortot in Paris, where she studied with Germaine Mounier and Yvonne Lefebure. She gave concerts in France, Great Britain, Israel. Critics marked the great sensitivity in her interpretations of Chopin's works. However, she has chosen teaching to be her main activity. Currently she works as a professor at L'Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. Many of her graduates are now concert pianists and pedagogues in conservatories in France and other European countries.
Until 2003 she served as Director of the Conservatoire de Musique de Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, which she founded in 1979. In the same town in 1984, she started organising the Concours National de Piano and from 1989 to 2003 she held the position of President – Fondatrice at an International Piano Competition in the same city. Both competitions have gained wide recognition.
In 2003 she was appointed professor at the Conservatory in Chatou. In this city in 2004 she initiated a piano competition, which since 2006 has become an international event named: Concours International de Piano de Chatou "Cécile Edel-Latos".
Edel - Latos held master classes in Beijing, Rabat, Belgium and Barcelona. She is regularly invited to work as a jury member at competitions in Merignac, China, Spain, Italy, Andorra, Belgium, Morocco, Mexico. Between 1996 and 2002 she was the president of the Union of Conservatories and Schools of Music, of the region of Yvelines in France, which brought together 68 schools (22,000 students). The union created a symphony orchestra which was made up of 70 musicians.
Cécile Edel - Latos is the founder of Edel-Latos / Guillard duo. The ensemble is giving numerous concerts, many of them with different orchestras. Furthermore, the duo made several recordings, including recordings of Fantasia in F Minor by F. Schubert and of the Hungarian Dances by J. Brahms. Alain Lompech, a music critic, emphasized the great emotions and dynamics of the interpretations of Edel – Latos / Guillard duo.
In 1995 the Minister of Culture awarded Cécile Edel-Latos with the title “Knight of Arts and Sciences”. In 1994 she received the Medal of Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche and in 1997 she was named an honorary citizen of the city Viroflay.
